Kitten Yoga: A purrfect fundraiser for Fixing the Boro

This past Friday, July 19th, the Trinity Episcopal Church Yoga Ministry hosted Kitten Yoga, benefiting Fixing the Boro. This was the second year for the Kitten Yoga fundraiser and adoption event.

Four different 30-minute sessions were held throughout the evening, starting at 4:30pm and continuing until 7:15pm. Certified Yoga Instructors Mel Sparrow, Jessica Keely, Kim Woolfe, and Christan Blount donated their time and expertise, each specializing in different areas of yoga.

When asked about how the church came to host this event, a church representative shared, “We are so happy to do this for Fixing the Boro. We love what they do for our community, and they work so hard on so little resources. We’re happy to offer a place for them, or anyone interested in doing any community fundraising, a place to gather and come together.”

Fixing the Boro was founded in the spring of 2017 by Sarah Roehm, Beth Stembridge, and Chris Sterling. Initially, it started as a group offering vouchers to local Statesboro veterinarians. In 2018, they expanded their services to include a rescue side.

Fixing the Boro’s mission is to provide low-cost sterilization for pets in Bulloch and surrounding counties. They offer a humane and sustainable solution to the overpopulation of dogs and cats in these areas. They strive to maintain the highest level of assistance and ensure their services are available to everyone who needs help with their pets.

Roehm, present at the event, expressed, “If even just one kitten gets adopted, then this event was a success. People can also donate or find information on adoption or fostering at any time online directly through the website.”

She shared that they have roughly 100 cats, 40 dogs, and a couple of rabbits available for adoption. Recently, she issued a call to action, requesting the community's support for animals in need of homes, stressing the urgency of their organization’s need for help.

Events like these can make a significant difference for an organization like Fixing the Boro and the lives of the animals they support. These events provide an opportunity for the animals to meet potential new families. As Roehm believes, these events are considered a success when animals find their forever homes.

At this year’s event, a few of the kittens were adopted.

Fixing the Boro and Trinity Episcopal stated that they plan to continue hosting events like Kitten Yoga, making it a summer tradition. They hope to organize another yoga-inspired event in the fall for their adoptable puppies and dogs.
