The Botanic Garden at Georgia Southern University recently hosted an impressive event called ’Hops and Hawgs’ to a sold out crowd. Exceeding all expectations, this first fall event was beyond impressive!
The guests were seated at cabaret style tables with white linens for a real touch of class, and the event featured a beer tasting (hops) and pig roast (hawgs) as its main attractions.
“The weather played nicely for the good tunes and times. The food was delicious and the cold beer tasty. Our members and new friends showed that they love us ‘pig’ time and did not want to go ‘bacon’ our hearts by not coming," said Todd M. Beasley, Ed.D, Director of the Garden. "Seriously though, we found a formula that worked and hope to build upon it for another event next year. Thank you, Garden Community.”
The Boro’s early evening weather was perfect. Light breezes, sunny, and mid 80s with a ‘come as you are' invitation created a comfortable and interactive atmosphere.
Leo Dean, Island Music from Coastal Georgia, played summer classics and set the mood for a fun vibe.
The Hops and Hawgs menu included: succulent roast pig, potato salad, coleslaw, baked beans, green beans, a variety of barbecue sauces, watermelon, and chilled beverages. The beer-tasting, by Allagash Brewing Company, provided a variety of flavorful beer. Perfection!
Garden guest Jill Boykin shared, “What a great event at the Botanic Garden. Wonderful live entertainment, amazing food, well attended and made lots of new friends!” Another guest, Deborah Kauber, expressed, ”Hops and Hawgs was FUN! Food, beer, and live music was great. Looking forward to the next one.”
The Botanic Garden wrapped it up by saying, “Your presence, coupled with our sponsors, partners, vendors and volunteers made ‘Hops and Hawgs’ a huge success!"
