On Monday, July 10th, Raybon Anderson was honored with having State Route 46 between U.S. Highway 301 and State Route 67 named as 'E. Raybon Anderson Highway'.
The public ceremony took place at the Waters family farmhouse at 2423 Jim Waters Road. Countless family, friends, and public officials showed up to witness the road dedication ceremony for Anderson.
Prayers, anthems, and warm sentiments were shared by several public officials and friends to Anderson during the ceremony. The light rain which accompanied the event could not stop the warmth of the intimate occasion.
Georgia State Senator Billy Hickman conducted the ceremony and read the plaque which was inscribed and dedicated to Anderson for the portion of highway to be renamed. Anderson beamed with joy upon receiving the plaque amongst his family and friends.
Anderson had these words to express following the ceremony:
"I was raised in this community and really never thought about State Route 46 being named at all. When Senator Hickman made the announcement that it would be named E. Raybon Anderson Highway, I was very honored. I would like to thank the state legislature and the state DOT for their consideration and efforts in renaming this portion of highway, E. Raybon Anderson Highway."
Senator Hickman had these warm sentiments to share as well.
"Raybon has been a tremendous leader and mentor to Bulloch County and many people across the State of Georgia. We felt like it was only fitting to name a portion of Highway 46 in his honor. His family farm is very close. We wanted to get this done in his lifetime so he could enjoy it."
Raybon Anderson has been a pioneer in the Bulloch County community for many years. His years of dedicated service range from serving as a district commissioner on the Bulloch County Board of Commisioners from 1991 to 1994, to serving another four-year term as commission chariman, to many other notable achievements.
Anderson's humble beginnings of growing up on a local farm, to eventually working with the U.S. Department of Agriculture, to founding the historical local staple, "Bulloch Fertilizer Inc." in 1963, makes him the perfect candidate for this road renaming honor.
