Georgia Southern University has hired alumnus John Stevenson (‘96) as its inaugural associate vice president for business engagement. He will lead the newly established Office of Business Engagement to advance the University’s mission through corporate partnerships. In this role, Stevenson will leverage his experience in business growth, strategic partnerships and investment management to develop and execute a University-wide strategy to increase research collaboration, philanthropy and student experiential learning opportunities with businesses.
“John’s expertise in cultivating high-impact collaborations will move Georgia Southern forward in expanding and deepening external partnerships across the University,” said Annalee Ashley, Ed.D., chief of staff and vice president for external affairs, communications and strategic initiatives. “With the establishment of the Office of Business Engagement, he will provide the strategic leadership and direction needed to strengthen our business relations strategy, creating lasting partnerships that benefit both our students and the broader community.”
Before joining Georgia Southern, Stevenson served as chief executive officer of Padlock Capital Partners, where he led the company’s expansion into commercial real estate investments in the United Kingdom. Under his leadership, the firm grew from concept to a portfolio of more than 25 locations across London, with a total value exceeding £150 million. Additionally, as managing director at Clear Sky Capital, Padlock Capital Partners’ parent company, he oversaw real estate and private equity investments across the United States, helping drive total capital value to nearly $250 million. His expertise spans strategic growth, investment underwriting, acquisitions, operations and asset management.
Earlier in his career, Stevenson played a key role in scaling a start-up hospitality franchisor from inception to more than 100 locations across the U.S. and Canada within six years. His leadership helped establish a robust corporate and franchise support system, contributing to system-wide revenues surpassing $125 million.
“I am beyond excited to join Georgia Southern University in this exciting new role within the Office of Business Engagement,” said Stevenson. “This opportunity allows me to combine my passion for strategic partnerships with my deep connection to the University and community. I look forward to collaborating with businesses, students, faculty, staff and stakeholders to drive meaningful collaborations and work alongside such an exemplary team.”
