Fixing the Boro recently hosted their “Hello Summer Adoption Event” last week.

The event gave locals the opportunity to view and potentially adopt eligible cats and dogs.

During the event, 30+ cats and kittens were available for adoption, and 13 dogs were available for adoption.

The primary goal of the event was to get these rescued animals into homes of future foster pet owners.

Hot dogs, drinks, and watermelon slices were available for the attendees to enjoy.

Furthermore, Wavee Shavee Ice Snowcones and Party Harbor Bounce Houses were fun attractions to the event as well.

In speaking with Sarah Roehm, the Rescue Director and Co-Founder of Fixing the Boro, she had this statement to give on the overpopulation of locally-rescued pets.

She says,

“We have over 100 cats (and kittens) in rescue currently. Similarly, we have 40 dogs (and puppies) in rescue as well So, this summer season has been quite trying for us; especially, as we try to find foster homes for each of these animals. People come to us from all over with cats and dogs that are in need of rescue. However, we don’t have the means to continue saying yes. We only have so many fosters and financial assistance available. So, adoption events like this one remain important. Hopefully during this event, we can have locals meet our critters, find one they love, and adopt them so that we can continue helping other animals.”

Fixing the Boro’s mission is to provide low-cost sterilization to resident pets across Bulloch County. They offer humane and sustainable solutions to the overpopulation of dogs and cats. The organization was started in the spring of 2017 by Sarah Roehm, Beth Stembridge, and Chris Sterling. Their efforts started as a group offering vouchers to local Statesboro vets, but as the voucher program grew, it evolved into the clinic, known as "Fixing the Boro".

Fixing the Boro is located at 915 East Inman St Statesboro, GA 30458.
