Five Guys set to open on November 18th in Statesboro

The Five Guys team are inside prepping for the grand opening on Monday

Five Guys, the popular burger chain, is set to open its first location in Statesboro on November 18, 2024 according to Five Guys District Manager Anderson Hewitt. The restaurant will be located at 23992 U.S. Highway 80 East, sharing a building with Mattress Warehouse.

The site preparation for this new addition to Statesboro's dining scene began in July 2023, as part of a larger development that includes other restaurants like Jim 'N Nick's Bar-B-Q and Texas Roadhouse.

Five Guys corporate has already listed Statesboro as one of their locations, and provide the menu, nutrition, and allergen info on their website.

"Welcome to your local Five Guys at 23992 U.S. 80 East in Statesboro. With more than 250,000 ways to customize your burger and more than 1,000 milkshake combinations, your perfect meal is just a click away! Whether it’s using fresh ground beef (there are no freezers in our restaurants), double-cooking our fries in 100 percent peanut oil, hand-preparing fresh ingredients every morning or serving peanuts while you wait, we strive to provide the best experience each and every time you visit."

Although the building was completed in January 2024, activity at the Five Guys site began ramping up in August, with deliveries of supplies and noticeable progress on the exterior. Now, after months of preparation, the restaurant is nearly ready to open its doors to the community.

To ensure a smooth launch, Five Guys hosted a hiring event on November 6, filling roles for crew members and shift leaders.

For Statesboro’s burger lovers, the arrival of Five Guys fills a noticeable gap in the local food scene. Previously, the nearest locations were in Pooler and Savannah. Known for their customizable burgers, fresh-cut fries, and a no-freezer approach to food quality, Five Guys has become a staple across the country and beyond.

The story of Five Guys began in 1986 when Jerry and Janie Murrell offered their four sons a choice: “Start a business or go to college.” The business idea won, and they opened a small carry-out burger joint in Arlington, Virginia.

Guided by Jerry’s mother’s advice—“If you can serve a good hamburger, you can always make money in America”—the Murrell family focused on simple, high-quality food. They served hand-formed burgers cooked on a grill and fresh-cut fries cooked in peanut oil.

By the early 2000s, Five Guys had begun franchising, leading to explosive growth. Within 18 months, they sold franchise rights to over 300 locations. Today, there are more than 1,700 Five Guys restaurants worldwide, with another 1,500 in development. Despite its expansion, the chain remains true to its roots, prioritizing fresh ingredients and avoiding freezers entirely.

Statesboro residents will soon be able to experience the Five Guys approach to burgers and fries when the new location officially opens on November 18, 2024. The hours will be open seven days a week from 11am-10pm.
