This Thanksgiving season, East Georgia Regional Medical Center is making a difference in the lives of families in need. Through a heartfelt annual initiative, led by its hospital auxiliary, hospital employees volunteered to provide complete Thanksgiving dinners to local families.

"We are doing our part to help others celebrate a happy Thanksgiving," said Sheri Pennington, friend of the auxiliary.

Brown paper bags, each labeled with a list of essential Thanksgiving meal items, are distributed to employees, who generously fill them with non-perishable goods. Once filled, the bags are returned to the hospital, where they are prepared for distribution to families in need.

"I think it's a wonderful project. It shows the generosity of the people who work at the hospital," Ernie Mitchell, Auxiliary volunteer, shared.

Each family also receives a Thanksgiving gift certificate, allowing them to select a meat of their choice, ensuring a warm, traditional holiday meal.

"The Auxiliary and employees of East Georgia Regional Medical Center have once again stepped up to help those in need in Statesboro," said David Keene, director of the Auxiliary.

This act of kindness reflects the hospital's commitment to community care beyond its walls. Together, employees are bringing the spirit of Thanksgiving to those who might otherwise go without, fostering hope and gratitude during this special season.

"Thanksgiving is a time to reflect gratitude for all we have and remember that everyone is not as blessed," said auxiliary volunteer Mary Ann Lisenbee. "I love doing the bags, knowing someone is enjoying a meal because of the efforts of the EGRMC Auxiliary."

Keene noted that this is the 13th year the group has packed Thanksgiving bags, and he expect this year's effort to impact about 400 families. Distribution is managed by Christian Social Ministries in Statesboro.
