Earlier today, a site-work contractor inadvertently cut the main power line supplying the East Georgia Regional Medical Center hospital building. Thanks to our emergency preparedness plan and response protocols, there was no interruption in power to any critical equipment or patient care areas at any time.
Our hospital is well equipped for situations like this, and our backup generators were fully operational, maintaining seamless power to all essential systems. We routinely conduct generator tests to support readiness for any unexpected event. Additionally, all points of entry and security measures were closely monitored and fully manned by our security team throughout the event.
Out of an abundance of caution, we have cancelled all elective surgeries for the remainder of the day. It is important to note that our Medical Office Building and outpatient clinics were not affected by this event and continued normal operations.
The safety and care of our patients, visitors, and staff remain our highest priority. We appreciate the understanding and cooperation of our community as we worked through this situation.
The main power was restored at 12:46 p.m.
