On March 14, 2024, the United States Census Bureau released new resident population estimates for Bulloch County. The County Development Services staff announced that as of July 1, 2023, Bulloch County’s population estimate is 84,327, representing a 1.6% increase or 1,289 new residents over the 2022 estimate.
Bulloch County advanced to become the 32nd most populous county in the State of Georgia and remains the third most-populous county in the ten-county Coastal Georgia Region that also includes the following counties: Bryan, Camden, Chatham, Effingham, Glynn, Liberty, Long, McIntosh, and Screven. Since 2020, Bulloch County has been the 33rd fastest-growing county in Georgia, remaining in the first quartile for growth in Georgia and outpacing the statewide growth.
The four-county area of Bryan, Bulloch, Effingham, and Chatham most impacted by the Hyundai Metaplant represents 66% of the estimated regional population of 508,902 and the area accounts for 58% of regional growth between 2022 and 2023.
Planning and Development Director James Pope notes, “The county’s current growth rate remains consistent, but we are beginning to see signs of the predicted Hyundai surge in the greater Savannah area through housing permit activity since last July 1, including Bulloch County.”
County Commission Chairman Roy Thompson states, “As we continue our natural growth, the Board of Commissioners are vigorously finishing plans for land use, transportation, utilities, housing, workforce, and community facilities.” Chairman Thompson adds, “Bulloch County is preparing not only for the regional growth but for the nearly 1,700 local manufacturing jobs coming into our community over the next 3-5 years.”
