The Leadership Bulloch 2024 Class is currently raising funds to build a cabin for Fostering Families, Inc. (formerly known as Fostering Bulloch).
Fostering Families is a local 501c3 organization dedicated to helping children in foster care and at-risk youth. The cabin is expected to increase Fostering Families' capacity to host more children from across the state of Georgia for their summer camps and other yearly events.
Why Fostering Families and Why a Cabin?
Fostering Families is a staple organization in the Statesboro-Bulloch county area. However, the organization has expanded it roots to now impact the lives of foster children from across the state of Georgia and beyond.
After the Leadership Bulloch class learned more about the life-changing summer camps of Fostering Families, the class knew that their next step was to help Fostering Families in hosting more children for summer camp.
Fostering Families' summer camps have the primary goal of touching the hearts of children in foster care, at-risk youth, and volunteers from across the state of Georgia.
"Fostering Bulloch was recently given permission by the State of Georgia to contact Group Homes from around the State that they did not have access to in the past. This new permission is going to allow for more kids to be impacted by the summer camps Fostering Families puts on,” stated Sean Fox, one of the class project leads.
"For the cabin, we initially had a goal of $60,000. However, if everything falls into place, we could potentially top $100,000, with the possibility of completing two cabins instead of one," Fox said. "Different non-profit organizations can always use as much help as possible, so Fostering Families was a great choice for our class project. What Chris Yaughn has built with 7th Mile Farm and Fostering Families is nothing short of incredible; and in the foster system, there is a big increase and interest around fostering children on a regular basis. So with Fostering Families now having this new cabin, it will definitely help them host most children and change more lives."
About Leadership Bulloch
Leadership Bulloch is a competitive, 9-month flagship program of the Statesboro-Bulloch Chamber of Commerce that seeks to identify and develop future community leaders by exposing class participants to various aspects of the community, including economic development, public safety, healthcare, agriculture, and local and state government.
Every year, the Leadership Bulloch class develops a project that makes a positive impact on the local community.
"On behalf of the 2024 Leadership Bulloch Class, we'd like to thank everyone who has donated to our cabin project thus far. Our class rallied together and raised a significant amount of funds in just a few short weeks," Fox added.
"We're hoping to really bless the Fostering Families organization and help with the work that they do in helping children in foster care. To be able to give them more resources for doing more good is something that we hope our fundraising efforts accomplish."
