Statesboro is a unique town. It has nooks and crannies of small business treasures interlaced throughout its city limits. And if you go roaming through its streets, you might stumble upon the trendy tea shop called Sum’mo Tea & Things on Savannah Avenue.

Sum’mo Tea & Things boasts a natural cuisine, including vegan options, which has garnered an impressive following in the Statesboro community since their inception in 2020. As its name suggests, the shop also offers herbal and specialty tea drinks, which are served both hot and iced.

But beyond its food and drink, the tea shop is also known for hosting special events throughout the year, with a goal of promoting small business engagement within the community.

One of their most notable events is their Communi’Tea Market Day.

Shop owners Jermaille and Alivia Lloyd host their Communi’Tea Market once a month to give entrepreneurs the chance to sell their wares to local consumers. This not only allows for increased business support but also for exposure.

The event is held in front of the shop and offers the chance for local sellers and buyers to mingle in a relaxed setting.

The Lloyds also offer regular retail options inside their shop for small business owners who may be looking to gain exposure and to sell their items in a brick and mortar space. (You'll find the author's small business, OatPop, and others holding retail space inside.)

Vendors are invited to participate in the upcoming CommuniTea Market Day on Saturday, August 27 from 12-3pm

“Me and Jermaille are super passionate about helping aspiring entrepreneurs reach their maximum potential," Alivia Lloyd said. "We know how difficult it can be to start and maintain a business, especially when you don’t have the knowledge or means necessary to do so. So, if there’s any way we can show our support to our fellow business owners, we try to assist in the ways that we can."

"Martin Luther King, Jr., said it best regarding our society’s inter-connectivity that, ‘I can never be what I ought to be, until you are what you ought to be,’" Lloyd added. "And that just simply means that we must help each other out in our collective pursuit towards reaching our fullest potentials.”

Their next Communi’Tea Market Day will be held on Saturday, August 27, from 12-3pm on the tea shop’s front lawn. The Lloyds invite any vendors who may be interested in participating to go to their website www.summotea.com/events to register for their vendor space as soon as possible.

Here’s to supporting your local entrepreneurs and enjoying “sum’mo” delicious tea & things! Cheers!
