Updated 12:11 PM 1/26/ 23 - Statesboro Police Officers responded to a shooting on Wednesday, January 25, 2023 around 11:30 PM at One Eleven South apartments located at 111 Rucker Lane in the City of Statesboro.
Mike Broadhead, Statesboro Police Chief confirmed that a 20 year old male was shot several times at the apartment complex.
The victim is listed as a student at Georgia Southern University according to their records.
According to an SPD release, officers arrived and located the adult male victim in the parking lot suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. Quick medical aid rendered by these officers, along with the efforts of Bulloch County EMS and East Georgia Regional staff, stabilized the victim for transport to Memorial Medical Center in Savannah.
Chief Broadhead said the suspect fled the scene prior to SPD officers arrival.
SPD Detectives responded to process the apartment in which the shooting occurred. SPD Dispatchers and SPD detectives were able to quickly access the complex’s surveillance footage via the Fusus system and develop several early investigative leads.
SPD Detectives have identified persons of interest in the case and are actively seeking to interview them. The incident appears, at this time, to have been confined to a single apartment and between individuals known to one another. The One Eleven South staff are cooperating fully in the investigation.
Chief Broadhead stressed this was not a random shooting and is believed to be drug related.

According to Chief Broadhead the suspect fled prior to SPD officers arriving on the scene. The victim, who is in stable condition, was transported by Bulloch County EMS initially to EGRMC and then transported to Memorial Medical Center in Savannah.
SPD has identified a suspect, along with witnesses to the shooting. SPD Investigators are working through the investigation and plan to release more information later today.
