South Georgia Tormenta FC has announced the signing of defender Collin Mocyunas to its 2023 USL League One roster. Mocyunas signed a two-year contract, pending league and federation approval.

A native of Morgantown, West Virginia, Mocyunas signs his first professional contract with Tormenta FC following six years with Marshall University.

The 2020 NCAA Division I men's soccer champion comes to South Georgia with a plethora of experience competing at the highest collegiate level, playing nearly a centurion of games with the Thundering Herd.

"Collin is an exciting acquisition for the club,” Ian Cameron, Head Coach of South Georgia Tormenta FC, said. “Chris Grassie's team at Marshall is one we always track, not just for their playing style but also because of the coaching environment and how those guys will adapt to our expectations. Collin is a guy who started as a midfielder in his youth and has morphed into an outside back. This profile is one we actively search for, and he will provide us new ways of building out of the back, while maintaining the aggression and competitiveness required to be a resolute defensive force, which we aim to always maintain."”

During the 2020 National Championship run, Mocyunas’s versatility allowed him to play, at times, as a center back. This versatility was a key factor of the Thundering Herd’s defense that allowed only eight goals in eighteen matches all season.

Across six years, the reliable defender represented Marshall in 92 matches. In May 2021, Mocyunas stamped his name into the Marshall Men’s Soccer record books by helping Marshall conquer its first-ever NCAA College Cup national championship.

“I am very grateful to be joining the current USL League One champion, Tormenta FC, and having the opportunity to continue the team's winning tradition,” Mocyunas said. “I cannot wait to get down to Statesboro and make it my new home.”

Mocyunas, who may hold the title of Mr. West Virginia, is a product of University High School (Morgantown, West Virginia). He was also named West Virginia Midfielder of the Year.

The growing 2023 roster features a strong core of seven returners ready to fight for a second League One title. The added power of new midfielder talent Matheus Cassini and many more new additions will be announced in the coming weeks.

Tormenta FC fans can secure their seats at the new Tormenta Stadium ahead of 2023. Season Tickets are now available to purchase.
