The Marvelous Moms of Bulloch County is a local club for resident moms with young children from ages one to five. The program, hosted by the Bulloch County Recreation and Parks Department, is for stay-at-home moms who desire to meet other local moms with small children in a safe space.
The group currently has about 10 moms and 15 children who regularly attend scheduled events. The recreational space provides activities for the children and moms to participate in, which fosters community and lasting friendships.
The Marvelous Moms of Bulloch County began in March of 2022. The program was created through a collaboration with Joy Deal (Recreation Division Manager) and Justin Smith (Community Recreation Program Supervisor). The two saw a local need for a safe, affordable, and comfortable environment for moms of young children to meet each other and grow their friendships. The Marvelous Moms group is an answer to that need.
The group regularly meets on Tuesdays, twice a month, from 11am-1pm. The calendar holidays are especially celebrated, with the group hosting parties and get-togethers for those. The group just celebrated their annual Christmas Party on December 6th, which was filled with tons of cookies, laughter, games, and memories.
At each meeting, group members participate in various fun and interactive activities such as arts & crafts, story time, and snack making. Currently, there are no monthly fees or costs to join the group. All local moms with small children are invited to come and participate in this new and growing social group.
Per the Bulloch County Recreation and Parks website, more fun is already planned for the “Marvelous Moms” and their kids in the new year. For example, January 10th will be an “Imagination Playground Playdate,” and January 24th will offer “Creative Craft: Canvas Painting.” February 7th will be a “Valentine’s Day Art Craft,” and February 21st will be “Colorful Chemistry” day.
Smith expressed his elation at the success of the group thus far.
"Having this space for local moms and children to connect with each other has been a complete success," he said. "In fact, one mom just moved here from out of town and expressed to us her gratitude for this group existing. She shared that it has allowed her to make such amazing connections with other moms much quicker.”
Smith would also like to give special thanks to his boss, Deal, who has contributed greatly to the fruition of this idea.
"My boss put in a lot of time and provided much input into the formation of this club and the children's activities for the group," he added. "She utilized her prior experience as a young mom with small children as the guiding light for many of our monthly activities.”
