CRIES FOR A FICTIONAL NATIONSTATE AND FOR THOSE FIGHTING CANCER

Residents of the fictional African nation-state of Wakanda often literally cry, “Wakanda Forever!” Those who help fight cancer will always figuratively cry, “Cancer-fighting and cancer assistance forever!”

Soul City Super Con and JoeFest, a comic and collectible con which expanded from JoeFest, is sponsoring a mini-con and a red carpet premiere of “Black Panther: Wakanda Forever” to raise money for Cancer Support Services in the region.

The mini-con starts off at Topgolf on 437 Topgolf Way in Augusta on Thursday, Nov. 10 at 5 p.m., and tickets must be purchased in advance for it. The regional premiere will have an actor from the film, Jason Conley, present at the event.

The festivities will then continue with thr premiere, just a four minute drive away at Riverwatch Cinemas on 832 Cabela Dr. in Augusta.

Jeremy Mace, coordinator for this event and the aforementioned con, said, “I love movies. I love comic books. I loved the first Black Panther movie, and I love going to the movies with my friends. I would get my family, friends, and co-workers to join me at the big Marvel movie premieres.”

“There is a certain energy when you are watching these movies on the big screen on opening night. After becoming friends with Jason Conley, who has a non-speaking supporting role (it's pretty awesome) in the movie, we came up with the idea of throwing a big party and red carpet premiere,” he added.

He next discussed the actor who will be present at the premiere.

“Jason Conley is a local actor from Aiken, S.C., who has appeared in the ‘Righteous Gemstones’ franchise, ‘Stranger Things’ Season IV, the upcoming ‘Gotham Knights’ and, of course, ‘Black Panther: Wakanda Forever.’ He is a comic book writer as well and has his own line, ‘Fate 68.’ ”

A MINI-COMIC CON AND CREATIVES CAPTURE INTEREST FOR CANCER SUPPORT SERVICES

As part of the event, a “mini” comic book convention starts at 5 p.m. at Topgolf. Local toy and comic vendors as well as comic book artists will sell their wares there. In fact, Top Dog Comics and Augusta Book Exchange, both of Augusta, will be among the toy and comics vendors.

In addition, Brian Shearer, professional G.I. Joe and Transformers artist, will be appearing and sketching. Also, local comics artists of all varieties will be in attendance. Those congoers who attend are encouraged to buy some comics and toys from vendors. They are also asked to buy some art and enjoy beverages and entertainment at Topgolf.

Next, the red carpet rolls out at 6 p.m. Participants then can get their autographs and pictures with Conley.

After this, the party will keep on going until 9 p.m. Attendees will then move over to Riverwatch Cinemas to see the 10:00 p.m. showing of “Black Panther: Wakanda Forever.”

By the way, participants are asked to purchase their own tickets for the movie in advance. Riverwatch Cinemas movie ticket sales are not part of this event.

AUGUSTA UNIVERSITY HEALTH SUPPORTS CANCER SUPPORT SERVICES AND CANCER FIGHTER HEROES

Augusta University Health is sponsoring this event, and Mace said he is overjoyed they are.

He said, “We are proud to announce that Augusta University Health is sponsoring this event. AU Health is committed to creating a community and working environment where everyone belongs and feels included. By sponsoring the Red Carpet Premiere Mini-Con, AU Health is excited to celebrate this monumental film and to support cancer fighter heroes.”

He said the purpose of the event is “...to have a great time supporting cancer fighters and celebrate the biggest movie of the year."

"‘Black Panther: Wakanda Forever’ is one of the few films that has the potential to bring people together - I think that is really important in 2022!” Mace added.
