ReTails is a non-profit thrift store that sells clothing, household items, decorative items, furniture, books, media, and much more. They have dollar clothing racks that are popular with customers and always good sellers. They also have an active Ebay store called ReTails Thrift. Items that are unique and may not sell at the store or are slow movers go there.

"We have anywhere from hats to books, stuffed animals, jerseys--really a hodgepodge of items," says Kristy.

The thrift store is donation reliant, and all of their profits go to the Humane Society, which includes rescues, the trap-neuter-release (TNR) program, spay/neuter programs, vouchers, and vet bills.

History of ReTails

Kristy Garrigus, Manager of ReTails, said the store was opened in 2011 by a “group of amazing women" in the community, who did all the legwork and provided the start-up costs of opening the store. They managed the store as well as found volunteers and support from the community.

Then after a few years, when the store was self-sufficient, it was handed over to the Humane Society. Since then, the business has steadily increased. Initially, there were 2 buildings, with one that specifically housed furniture. When Covid hit, they sold it all online, and now that space has a new purpose.

Kristy said, "The Humane Society needed a place they could do meet and greets and adoptions. Now, that is the official adoption center."

ReTails is now sporting a brand new sign and fence that Kristy says were donated by a "wonderful, wonderful supporter of the Humane Society." The new logo was created by Rachel Shaw, one of the Assistant Managers at ReTails.

"We love that it is large and out front and so much more visible,” said Kristy.

ReTails was voted "Best Thrift Store" in Statesboro and noted as one of "The Best Thrift Stores in Georgia."

Jeff Goldblum?

If you have ever visited ReTails, you may have noticed that the frames for sale inside all contain photos of Jeff Goldblum.

According to Kristy, growing up in the antiques business is how she learned that frames sell better with photos inside. This is what inspired her to put her favorite actor, Jeff Goldblum, in all the frames you find at ReTails.

She has fun finding just the right Jeff Goldblum picture that matches the frame. She loves that he is an animal lover and a huge advocate for animal rights as well.

"It's fun and I enjoy it, and yes it does garner some attention," she said.

William Sack, one of ReTails Assistant Managers, and who does all the social media, said it has created some "viral marketing" and helped spread the word about ReTails. (So Jeff, if you are ever filming in Georgia--come meet your biggest fan!)
