Marie Williams Smith Taylor

Marie Williams Smith Taylor, 92 of Sylvania passed on Friday, November 11, 2022 at the Optim Medical Center Screven.

Marie was born on November 25, 1929 to the late Curtis Ivey and Elizabeth “Lizzie” Brannen Williams of Bulloch County and was a graduate of Statesboro High School, class of 1947. She was the eldest active member of the Goloid Baptist Church. She loved her church and church family but most of all she loved her Lord with all her heart, mind, and soul. She retired from the Screven County Board of Education having been employed with Central Middle School where she was known as “the token lady” by all of the students.

She was preceded in death by sisters, Nancy Irene Williams, Levon Turner, Alberta Ortiz, and Audrey Bradshaw; brothers, Curtis Ivey Williams and James Harold Williams; and the father of her children, J.C. Smith.

Surviving are her daughters, Nancy Smith of Aiken, SC, Betty “Fro” Smith (Melanie Joiner); son, James C. “Jim” Smith (Patti), all of Sylvania; grandsons, Zach Hyleman (Rebecca) of Charleston, SC, and Jacob Smith of Sylvania; three great-grandchildren, J.C. Hyleman, Charles William Hyleman, and Caroline Ruth Hyleman; sister, Joyce Wiggins of Statesboro; brother, Donald Williams (Donna) of Hephzibah; and several nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be held on Sunday, November 13, 2022 at the Screven Chapel of Joiner Anderson Funeral Home from 1:00-2:30pm.

Funeral services will follow at 3:00pm in the Goloid Baptist Church with Rev. Keith McFeeley officiating.

Interment will be in the Screven Memorial Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Jim Smith, Jacob Smith, Zach Hyleman, Jay Hill, Michael Jones, Russell Sydow, and Dallas Owens.

Honorary pallbearers will be the deacons of Goloid Baptist Church.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Goloid Baptist Church - Missions, care of Mandy Howard 2236 Gilgal Rd. Sylvania, GA 30467.
