Georgia Forestry Association Timothy Miller

The guest speaker for the luncheon was Timothy Miller who is the Advocacy and Membership Director at the Georgia Forestry Association. In this role Miller works to advance the mission of the organization as the primary advocate for Georgia’s working forest landowners, forest product manufacturers, and forest-based businesses. In his speech Miller said Georgia is the number one forestry state in the nation. The forestry industry in Georgia has a $39 billion economic impact and is responsible for 140,000 jobs. Over 5,000 products in our daily lives comes from Georgia forestry products. There are currently 24 million timberland acres in Georgia of which 22 million privately owned which represents generations of investments in forest.

Environmentally, since the early 1950's, Georgia has been increasing in forest coverage. Annually we have 48% more growth volume than harvesting. One acre of forest land provide carbon offsets for 66 miles driven by a vehicle and recharges 242,000 gallons of water.

Ag Partner of the Year

The Chamber and Morris Bank recognize the complexity of the challenges faced by ag retailers and growers. The ag partnerships of this community help mutual customers achieve excellent business outcomes. These partnerships provide the service necessary for profitable and sustainable farming.

Bulloch Counties Jon Marsh Anderson was recognized as the Ag Partner of the Year recipient. One of the most impactful tasks a Chamber is expected to accomplish is partnering with community stakeholders. Partnerships though, are a two-way street. The Bulloch County Recreation & Parks under the leadership of County Manager, Tom Couch and Recreation and Parks Director, Eddie Canon and Ag Complex Manager, Billy Springer have been gracious and dedicated partners for this event year after year. They provide the space, supply the tables, chairs, and staging, spending hours making sure every detail is covered. Partnerships such as this between the Chamber and the County deserve recognition and celebration.
