Safe Haven, a nonprofit fighting against domestic violence in southeast Georgia, has unveiled an angelic mural at its outreach building near downtown Statesboro.

The mural, which was created to help honor victims and survivors of family abuse, features purple angel wings with the words “Safe Haven Angels” above the wings. Purple is the color associated with domestic violence, while a Safe Haven Angel is considered a survivor and/or someone in the community who donates time and resources to the organization.

Edie Grice, Safe Haven’s Creative Intern, is the artist behind the organization’s new wall art. Grice said that although the project in its entirety took around 25 hours to complete, it was a huge labor of love for her.

“I’m really appreciative that I got this opportunity to give something back to an organization that has given so much to so many people in the community,” said Grice. “I really love the message of Safe Haven Angels, because it’s a way to honor everyone that makes Safe Haven what it is.”

Any angel, whether it be a survivor, volunteer, supporter or a Dancing with the Statesboro Stars sponsor, is welcome to visit the mural and take a picture with the angel wings.
