Local residents are invited to don their best Thanksgiving costumes and walk or run in the annual 5K Turkey Trot.

Bulloch County Foundation for Public Education's 15th annual Turkey Trot event will be taking over downtown Statesboro on Nov. 19.

This is an all ages, all abilities event where individuals or teams of five or more participate in a 5K. Wagons, strollers and family-friendly canines on leashes are also welcome.

Funds raised at the event will provide grants for classroom teachers' innovative projects and college scholarships.

The Turkey Trot will begin at 8 a.m. on Nov. 19 at the Bulloch County Courthouse Square.

Festivities will begin with a 100-yard dash featuring local business mascots. For attendees 12-years and younger, a fun run will start at 8:30 a.m. The main 5k event will begin in front of City Hall at 9:00 a.m.

Entry fees for the fun run are $15 per person. The 5K is $30 per person or $25 per person for teams of five or more. The mascot run is free to enter.

Interested participants are asked to pre-register online. Registration will also be available on the day of the event. However, the first 300 people to register will receive a free T-shirt.
