Statesboro STEAM Academy's Beta Club is awarded National Qualifiers

Statesboro STEAM College, Careers, Arts and Technology Academy’s mission is to evoke a sense of pride and ownership in the love for learning and the adventure of growing beyond self to enhance individual success by putting students first and encouraging them to push past all perceived limits to reach their ultimate goals, through experiences with Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Math.

On October 11, 2022, students from Statesboro STEAM Academy participated in the North Carolina Leadership Summit for Beta Club Members. Lanna South, Statesboro STEAM Academy Math Teacher, said, “The National Leadership Summit offers Beta Members a chance to learn how to become more effective leaders, build positive self-esteem and overcome negative peer pressure. Whether engaging in energetic group activities and discussions, listening to motivational speakers, or competing in team-building events, members develop enduring friendships and take-home ideas that will enable them to become better students, leaders and people.”

The mission of the National Beta Leadership Program is to inspire tomorrow’s leaders to achieve their personal best through service, character, and achievement. Ms. South stated, “there are three competitions at the Leadership Summit and the middle and high school students performed at a distinguished level in all events, including Lead Outside the Box, Collaboration Connection, and Project Proposal. Our Middle school and High school students were awarded National qualifiers which means they will compete at the National Convention in Louisville, Kentucky in June 2023.”

Ms. South went further to explain, “State and National Conventions give members the opportunity to interact, share project ideas, and showcase their academic and leadership abilities. Plus, these conventions are held in exciting locations, giving members the chance to see cities and places they might not ordinarily see.”

It is quite the achievement to participate at the National Convention. Ms. Lanna South stated, “at Statesboro STEAM Academy, we encourage our students to think outside the box and be innovators. As the sponsor of the Beta Club, I could not be prouder of these students and the amount of heart they put into everything they do. The National Beta Club at Statesboro STEAM Academy has been working hard to showcase our leadership, collaboration, community, and academic achievement. We are excited about this opportunity and hope to make Statesboro STEAM and the Statesboro community proud.”
