Roosevelt’s Character Development Center will host a Car Show on October 15 from 8:00am-3:00pm to raise money to go towards their Roosevelt Cone Jr. Scholarship Foundation.

The event will take place in the parking lot behind the business complex at 127 North Main Street. The event’s theme will be “Revin’ Up For Good Character,” and all participating car owners will be judged by local attendees, with the winner receiving a $500 “Best-In-Show” cash prize.

Roosevelt's Character Development Center is a program that builds character and self-esteem in underserved youth. The goal of the center is to increase resiliency in at-risk youth. Each session offers a value-based leadership curriculum that enhances the experiences for students by promoting self-respect, positive relationships, social skills, and positive values, all while participating in a group family setting. During program days, students discuss and discover the meanings of being a positive person and learning how to deal with everyday life problems.

Development Center owner, Roosevelt Cone Jr., has always loved cars; particularly vintage, well-kept cars. And he’s not the only one! There is a community of local vintage car admirers in Statesboro who regularly host and attend car events.

If you are unsure of what a car show is, essentially, it's a place where vintage car purveyors come to show off their cars together. It provides a space for local car admirers to peruse the different vintage car delights and designs of other participants.

The vintage cars are the feature, but the camaraderie is the bonus! So, if you’re looking for your next local car show to attend or participate in, simply pay your $50 entry fee to participate in this upcoming one which will directly benefit a group of our local children.

Car show is part of something much bigger

“I believe the children are our future. Teach them well and let them lead the way.” If ever there was an individual who agreed with the sentiments of Whitney Houston more, it is none other than Roosevelt Cone Jr.

Roosevelt has been working with the children of Statesboro for 20 years. And his previous jobs, working for the Boys and Girls club and various daycare centers around Statesboro, has him well versed in the art of helping children reach their highest potential.

He majored in Early Childcare Education for his undergrad degree and went on to obtain a master’s degree in psychology. His desire to be a role model for the town’s local children stems from his childhood admiration of the icon Michael Jordan. By having the character traits of respect and kindness being emphasized in his early childhood from various inspirations, his present goal of instilling that in the younger generation continues to be at the forefront of his organization’s mission.

Grice Connect looks forward to sharing more about Roosevelt and his community service soon.
