The Humane Society of Statesboro & Bulloch County will kick off October with their Fall Fix for Felines. Throughout October, participating veterinarian clinics are offering the reduced price of $50 on all feline (cat) spay and neuters.

Participating clinics include: Best Friends Animal Hospital, Gateway Animal Hospital, and Statesboro Bulloch Regional Veterinary Hospital. Best Friends Animal Hospital will have their Feline Fix October 11, Gateway Animal Hospital on October 19, and Statesboro Bulloch Regional the whole month of October. Slots are limited, so please do not delay in making your appointment.

In previous years, the Humane Society has sponsored Feline Fix but only once a year. They are hoping with enough interest, they can have the Feline Fix twice a year, in February and October.

According to Carrie Mitchell, Spay/Neuter Coordinator and Secretary for the Humane Society, the community need is great.

“We get so many calls," she said. "We have a Community Cat program and a voucher program, but a lot of people don’t qualify for the voucher because that is limited income and available to only Bulloch County residents. With this, it doesn’t matter how much money you have or what county you live in.”

The only requirement to make an appointment is a current rabies vaccine. The veterinarian may also recommend other treatments not included in the $50 surgical fee.

Carrie says, “The vets enjoy doing it, and they can see the positive in giving back.”

Amy Trevino of Best Friends Animal Hospital says they have worked with the Humane Society in the past with this type of program.

“We like to help by offering lower priced spay/neuter, whereas normally some people may not be able to get them done at full price,” she said.

To make an appointment, call one of the participating vets offices and mention the Feline “Fall Fix.” A current rabies vaccine is required, and some veterinarian clinics may require additional fees at the time of service. All cats must be brought to the office in a hard-sided, plastic carrier.
