VIDEO: Downtown Pep Rally draws large crowd Friday

Annual pep rally brings fans, fun and excitement to downtown Statesboro

A large crowd of community members showed up for the Downtown Pep Rally event which featured three area high school teams, cheerleaders and band members for the annual First Friday event.

Hours before the event was to begin, downtown Statesboro received 3 inches of rain. That did little to dampen the spirits of the teams, fans and vendors. Most important the community really showed up to support the area high schools.

Rahn Hutcheson, the Executive Director of the Averitt Center for the Arts, served as master ceremonies and introduced each of the teams as they took the stage on the Courthouse steps.

Hutcheson discussed with a few of the coaches and some of the key players their teams’ upcoming seasons.

Bulloch Academy had committed to attend but they were not able to make it. Portal High School, Southeast Bulloch High School and Statesboro High School were all in attendance.

The proud sponsor of this year’s Downtown Pep Rally event was Statesboro Natural Gas. They provided delicious hotdog's and refreshments for the attending teammates. There were also local vendors selling food and products to parents and other community members.
