On Thursday, August 25, Georgia Southern celebrated all Statesboro has to offer with the Boro Browse event. From Chick-fil-A to tattoos and piercings, this event gave a chance for campus departments, organizations, and local businesses from all across Statesboro to promote themselves to Georgia Southern students.

The event was hosted by the Georgia Southern Office of Student Activities.

The event was packed, as students gathered around the Rotunda near Russell Union to scout out all the booths. One of the offerings was a free haircut from West End Barber Shop.

"I just got done taking my syllabus quiz, and I wanted to see what was going on," GSU Student Jack Harriot said. "I saw this, and I figured I might as well get a free haircut."

For some, this event was a great way to share ways they are helping the community. That became the case for Shun Newson, who ran the Jade Space exhibit. Jade Space is a community center in development that is meant to help young people learn how to excel in life.

"My daughter has autism," Newson said. "So I'm trying to develop something for her to participate in. A place where she can come and learn life skills."

Local businesses, like Boro Takeout, also made a strong showing at the Browse. Boro Takeout is a service exclusive to Statesboro that delivers food from a wide variety of local restaurants. According to exhibitor Stephen Minton, students have become more used to other delivery services like DoorDash or UberEats for delivery.

"With the new corporates, the students are used to them instead of a local company," he said. "So we're trying to expose ourselves to the students a bit more."

At the event, the Boro Takeout booth represented Sum'mo Tea and offered their new drink, Mango Strawberry Lemonade, a drink students reacted very positively to.

"We deliver over 35 restaurants, all local, so the money stays local," Minton added. "That's our big thing; buy local, so the money stays local."

For students, the event was a great way to get a taste of what Statesboro is all about, encouraging them to venture off campus and get involved in the local community and economy. For the exhibitors, that made Boro Browse a complete success.
