For the first time Bulloch County Parks and Recreation had three teams make it to the Junior Team Tennis State Championships.

Held in Macon, each team competes in five different matches:

  • boys’ singles
  • girls' singles
  • boys' doubles
  • girls' doubles
  • mixed doubles

The winner is based on the total games won across all five matches.

The three teams were 12 and under, 14 and under and 18 and under.

12 and under team

This was the first time Bulloch County Parks and Recreation sent a 12 and under team, representing South Georgia.

The 12 and under team consists of players from Statesboro, Brooklet and Claxton.

  • Addy Gray
  • Holden Deal
  • Ivy Lacienski
  • Nate Devine
  • Luke Dove

14 and under team

“They had its best showing ever defeating Northeast Georgia and Augusta. They had a big comeback to tie Rome. But later lost to Atlanta for a chance to make it to the finals,” said coach of the 14 and under team, Brian Hall.

The 14 and under team:

  • Jay Brooks
  • Chase Waters
  • Davis Hall
  • Lydia Fowler
  • Rylee Veland
  • Sydney Kate Aaron
  • Ada Lacienski

  • Anna Washington

Lydia, Rylee, and Sydney Kate go to SEB and the others attended William James.

18 and under team

The 18 and under team consisted of players from Statesboro, Sylvania and Savannah.

Coached by Carrie Feltman, the team was able to make it further in the competition than any other South Georgia team.

The team started with a win over Middle Georgia and defeated Rome. They defeated an Atlanta team with a spot in the semifinals on the line.

The semifinals drew three Atlanta teams.

They beat the first one to advance in the state championship, where they then lost a close match to Crooked Creek by five games, finishing as the state runner up.

“The three boys and three girls each played every single match all through the heat,” said Feltman.

The 18 and under team:

  • Jack Hagan
  • Hudson Lanier
  • Ethan Thurmon
  • Naomi Feltman
  • Lyla Johnson
  • Julia Basquin

All three of these teams won the Southeast Georgia section to advance to the State Champions.

“This was a huge accomplishment for Statesboro,” said Feltman.

The program is sponsored locally by the Bulloch Recreation Department.
