At the beginning of each new Georgia Southern University (GS) school year, Grice Connect takes a look at new construction projects that are underway on their campuses. Again this year, there are millions of dollars in exciting additions and improvements underway. Here are some of the highlights.
Statesboro Campus
Jack and Ruth Ann Hill Convocation Center (Statesboro) - new 98,000 SF Convocation Center for Waters College of Health Professions, multipurpose venue for University events and external community events and Athletics venue. Currently in design - approximately 75% complete, scheduled to mobilize and start construction early December 2022.
Williams Center 2nd floor Renovation (Statesboro) - Design complete, evaluating bid results for construction, scheduled to start construction Fall 2022. This project will renovate a portion of the 2nd floor of the Williams Center for the following groups: FSL, OMA, Student Media and Food Insecurity.
Anthony Tippins Family Athletics Indoor Practice Facility (Statesboro) - new 92,000 SF Athletics Indoor Practice Facility located near Paulson Stadium. Construction underway with scheduled completion in Spring 2023.
Freedom's Landing Housing complex upgrades (Statesboro) - replacement of all building windows and exterior painting for all 17 buildings at the complex
Renovation to portion of the Nessmith-Lane Conference Center and East Georgia State College (EGSC) Highway 301 Building in conjunction with East Georgia State College (Statesboro) - Construction complete 4/15/22
Demolition and Redevelopment of the University Villas Housing complex (Statesboro) - Demolition of 175,000 SF of 12 apartment buildings and clubhouse with conversion into parking lot.
Extension of Akins Blvd to connect to Lanier Drive (Statesboro) - Extension of 3,400 LF of boulevard that will connect Akins Blvd to the existing roundabout from Lanier Drive. Construction to start Fall 2022.
Armstrong
Memorial College Center 2nd floor Renovation (Armstrong) - Design complete, evaluating bid results for construction, scheduled to start construction Fall 2022. This project will renovate the 2nd floor of the MCC for the following groups: SARC, SGA, OMA, Student Media and Event Services.
Student Success Complex (Armstrong) - Renovation to the 32,500 SF old Pirate Athletic Center (volleyball arena) to a new consolidated Student Success Complex. Construction completed 5/25/22
