A Facebook hoax post took local donut lovers by storm over the weekend. The post falsely advertised a free dozen donuts in honor of the Daylight Donut Company’s 70th anniversary. The post has generated more than 85,000 shares Facebook-wide.
The national Daylight Donut Flour Company was founded in 1954, and all Daylight Donuts stores are locally owned. That makes the company 68 years old, not 70 as stated in the hoax post on Facebook.
The Statesboro location recently celebrated 31 years in business. Randy Linto opened our store in July of 1991.
Employees working in the store Monday said they had been contacted over the weekend with questions about the hoax. The Facebook post was not in any way affiliated with Daylight Donuts, local or otherwise. (The Statesboro store only has an unofficial, informational page on Facebook.)
No free donuts, but open and ready to serve
While they are not giving away free dozens, the Statesboro store is open and ready to serve locals from 5:30am to noon, Monday through Saturday, with delectable donuts and pastries, coffees, and hot breakfast items.
Linto noted that the Daylight Company has its own unique flour blend, which is used in all locations. Everything at the Statesboro location is made by hand, in-house.
Located along the Blue Mile at 455 South Main Street, visitors can expect some construction around the entrance but should still be able to enter the parking lot easily via West Kennedy St.
