Arneese Abraham

January 14, 1938 - July 27, 2022

Arneese Dorothy Woods Abraham was born on January 14, 1938 in the town of Darlington, South Carolina. Surrounded by love, she passed away peacefully at the age of 84 on July 27, 2022. A discerning woman of exquisite taste, she provided comfort and solace while asking little in return. She was cherished by her family.

Arneese was the only child of the union of the late Modestine (Bess) Woods and Golden Woods. She was a member of St. John United Methodist Church in Darlington, South Carolina. Arneese earned her Bachelor of Science in Education from Bennett College, where she was a member of the basketball team. Not being one to settle, she would later go on to obtain a Masters of Science in Education from South Carolina State. In all her educational pursuits, she never failed to be anything less than an excellent student who pursued knowledge with an unrelenting fervor.

Upon completing her studies Arneese moved to Statesboro, Georgia where she would meet and marry the love of her life, Rev. Julius Abraham, Jr. From this union two wonderful and adoring children were born, Sheryl Celestavia Abraham and Julius Golden Abraham IIl.

Arneese began her teaching career in Bulloch County by accepting a position at what was then William James High School. In 1971, Statesboro High School and William James High were combined as a fully integrated school. It was during this time that she accepted a teaching position as a life skill teacher in the area of Home Economics in an effort to support and stand firmly with her husband, Rev. Julius Abraham, during that controversial transitional time.

In her sun-setting years of life Arneese enjoyed watching sports, gardening and cheering her grandchildren to pursue their dreams. She loved her entire family. She worried about them, rooted for them, protected them, encouraged them, and always kept on loving them. She was a woman committed to her family – a steadfast and loving wife, mother and grandmother.

She is survived by her dedicated and loving children Sheryl Abraham Littles (Vernon) and Julius Golden Abraham, III (Judy); grandchildren Vernard Everett Littles, Erica Nicole Abraham, Alyssa McKenzie Abraham, and Garrison Abraham Littles; an aunt Lurlean (Trick) Bess Mack; special cousin LaVonia Solomon; a host cousins, nieces, nephews, and loved ones.
