The Averitt Center for the Arts has had to push back the opening of the this weekend's The Wizard of Oz performances. The show was scheduled to open on Friday, July 15th. However, due to cast members testing positive for COVID they have had to move that back one week.

Below are the details from from the Averitt

Due to circumstances beyond our control, this weekend’s performances of The Wizard of Oz (July 15-17) have been postponed.

The Wicked Witch of COVID has ridden in on her broom and dashed off with Dorothy’s ruby slippers. This has foiled our plans for a great first weekend of this classic musical from our company of wonderful community theater actors and actresses.

Fortunately, next weekend’s performances (July 22-24) are still scheduled to be held in our historic Emma Kelly Theater.

We are also planning on bringing back Dorothy, Tin Man, Scarecrow and the Cowardly Lion on a weekend in August.

If you purchased advance tickets for this weekend or next, please be expecting a telephone call or an email from our Box Office personnel, giving you options on your future seating arrangements.

We thank you for your patience.
