Tai Chi Outreach Program

The GS Tai chi program focuses on reducing the risks of falls through the practice of a simplified 24-style Tai Chi. It is low impact and puts minimal stress on muscles and joints, making it generally safe for all ages and fitness levels. It may be especially suitable if you’re an older adult who otherwise may not exercise.

History of Tai Chi

Originally developed as a form of Chinese martial arts, tai chi (TIE-CHEE) has evolved into a type of dynamic meditation. Tai Chi promotes serenity through gentle, flowing movements. It is a noncompetitive, self-paced system of gentle physical exercise and stretching. Each posture flows into the next without pause, ensuring that your body is in constant motion with high impact. There are many styles of Tai Chi practice, albeit following similar patterns.

Tai Chi can bring many health benefits when studying correctly and practicing regularly. In addition to reducing fall risks, Tai Chi practice can decrease stress, anxiety and depression, boost mood, increase aerobic capacity, enhance energy and stamina, improve flexibility, balance and agility, and strengthen muscle.
