The Statesboro-Bulloch Chamber of Commerce Young Professionals Network hosted an "Explore Your City" event in downtown Statesboro on Thursday, May 5, in connection with Cinco de Mayo.

Nearly forty guests braved the season's first 90-degree day to enjoy tacos, drinks, music, and networking. The event was sponsored by CORE Credit Union.

Thursday's YPN social was the group's second event designed to bring together new talent from Statesboro's workforce. According to Chamber of Commerce Member Relations Director Landon Haralson, the events aren't about attracting new members but helping young professionals "establish roots in their city." While the events are free to attend and open to the public, Haralson says attendees will get a preview of some of the many benefits to Chamber membership.

"Next year, we hope to convert the Young Professionals Network into a mentorship program," said Jennifer Davis, Chamber of Commerce President & CEO. "It will consist of seasoned executives mentoring recent college graduates to retain the talent that's been here for the past four years."

Grice Connect’s own Kelsie Posey and "old professional" DeWayne Grice (who also serves on the Advisory Board of CORE Credit Union), along with this reporter, attended the event. We thoroughly enjoyed getting to know other community leaders and learning about their initiatives to keep Statesboro on the trajectory of sustainable economic growth and social expansion.
