Two Bulloch Commissioner seats contested; Rushing unopposed

Two seats on the Bulloch County Board of Commissioners will appear on local ballots in May following this week's qualification period .

Two seats on the Bulloch County Board of Commissioners will appear on local ballots in May following this week's qualification period.

Commissioner Anthony Simmons, a Democrat who currently represents District1-B, will face off against Republican newcomer Preston Tutt III in the November general election.

Long-serving Commissioner Walter Gibson chose not to seek re-election, leaving the District 2-B seat open. Republican candidates Toby Conner, Travis Chance, and Jennifer Campbell Mock, along with sole Democratic candidate Jake Hallman, will vie for the vacant board seat. Hallman will appear unopposed on the Democratic ballot in May and will face the Republican primary winner in November.

Republican Commissioner Timmy Rushing, currently representing District 2-D, did not draw opposition. He will remain in his position on the board.

District 1-B

Anthony Simmons (D)

Incumbent

Serving since 1993 (29 years)

Preston Tutt III (R)

Born and raised in Harlem, GA, Tutt moved to Statesboro to study music and construction management at Georgia Southern University. Having lived in Bulloch County his entire adult life, Tutt currently resides in Portal and is the Assistant Manager at O'Reilly Auto Parts in Statesboro.

District 2-B

Travis Chance (R)

Chance has lived in Bulloch County for 24 years. He graduated from GSU with a BBA in Marketing and is the owner of CFG Wealth Management, LLC, a financial planning firm. He and wife Shannon have been married for 9 years. Together, they have three daughters: Maeson, Marett, and Maddox. Chance formerly served on the Statesboro City Council from 2008-2018.

Toby Conner (R)

A Bulloch County native, Conner graduated from Southeast Bulloch High School in 2003. He is a fifth-generation farmer and an active member of Leefield Baptist Church. Conner and his wife Kelsey have two children: Lane and Hazel Mae.

Jennifer Campbell Mock (R)

Mock, a Bulloch County native and owner of The Mock Law Firm, has practiced law in Statesboro for 15 years. She is actively engaged in the Professional Women of Statesboro, Statesboro Exchange Club, and Pittman Park United Methodist Church. She and husband Jared reside in Statesboro with their three daughters: Kate, Ada, and Lily.

Jake Hallman (D)

Hallman is the owner of Stouthouse Media, a locally-based video production company. The long-time Bulloch County resident also teaches audio/visual classes at The Den inside Claxton High School, his alma mater. Hallman and his wife, Suzanne, have two boys: Jude and Rex.
