All three Bulloch Board of Education (BOE) members who sought reelection have drawn opposition as qualifying closed at noon on Friday, March 11, 2022.
BOE Chairman and District 2 representative, Mike Sparks decided to retire from the board and not seek re-election. Educator Elizabeth Williams, a retired principal, was the only person to qualify to run for this seat. Since she is unopposed she will automatically fill the District 2 seat next year.

Donna Clifton
Clifton graduated from SEBHS in 1984 and went on to graduate from Georgia Southern in 1987 (Bachelors), in 2000 (Masters) and in 2006 (Education Specialist). She has a 30 year career in Education (17 classroom teacher/13 administration) where she retired from SEBHS Principalship in 2017. She is married to Mike Clifton and her children are Chase and Ashley. She has a granddaughter Hagan and baby Hollis is due in April.

Elizabeth Williams brings 40 years of Education Leadership Experience to BOE
Williams has over 40 years of experience as a P-16 educator. She started began her career as a Middle School Teacher where she taught for 13 years. She and her husband relocated to Bulloch County in 1994 where she continued her teaching career at Southeast Bulloch High School as a Biology and Anatomy and Physiology Teacher.
When Southeast Bulloch Middle School opened, she became the Assistant Principal where she served for one year. Afterwards, Williams moved to Stilson Elementary School where she served as Principal for 6 years.
Following this experience, she was named Principal of Langston Chapel Middle School where she served an additional 6 years. After retiring from public education in 2010, Williams became and Instructor at Armstrong State University which later merged with Georgia Southern University.
She has been working on the Statesboro Campus of Georgia Southern University for the last four years. She currently works in the College of Education as a faculty member and Director of the BSED Elementary Education Program.
During her time in public education, she was the recipient of many accolades as a teacher and principal. "One of the most memorable experiences was when Governor Perdue recognized me as a “High Performing Principal” in the state of Georgia because of my student’s academic performance," said Elizabeth Williams. "Although my educational career has been extremely rewarding, I will become a retired educator at the end of this semester. As a retired educator, I have the desire to serve and advocate for our children as I bring my experience to the table of our Board of Education meetings."
