GBI Investigating GS Campus Housing Shooting Death | Deceased not a GS student

An 18 year old man has died from a shooting at a GS Campus Housing complex in Statesboro according to Bulloch County Coroner Jake Futch.

An 18 year old man has died from a shooting at a GS Campus Housing complex in Statesboro according to Bulloch County Coroner Jake Futch.

Bulloch County 911 dispatched emergency services on Thursday, February 25, 2022 at 3:30 PM to a campus housing shooting at Freedom's Landing at 211 Lanier Drive near Paulson Stadium. Freedom's Landing is a GS student housing complex which has the capacity to house 976 students.

Multiple law enforcement agencies along with Bulloch County EMS responded to the scene. Bulloch County EMS transported one victim who had suffered a gunshot wound and was reported to be in critical condition at the scene. Bulloch Corner Futch said the man died later on Thursday at EGRMC. He has been identified as Kelsey Parrish from Swainsboro.

The Corner said manner of death has not been determined. He confirmed that Parrish's body has been sent to the GBI crime lab to help determine the cause and manner of death.

Jennifer Wise, Director of GS University Communications confirmed that Parrish was not a student of GS. Wise also confirmed that the Georgia Bureau has taken over the investigation at the request of GS Public Safety.

She also released a message sent out to GS students on Thursday.

Georgia Southern University Police are currently investigating a shooting incident at Freedom's Landing. No foul play is suspected at this time. Please avoid the area.
