Bulloch County 911 dispatched Statesboro and Bulloch Fire Departments to a fire alarm call at the Statesboro Walmart Supercenter around 7:00 AM on Sunday, January 30, 2022.

Walmart's management team followed safety protocols and evacuated the store when the alarm was activated.

When the first firefighters arrived on the scene they reported light smoke in the rear of the store near an employee break area.

Statesboro Fire Tower One positioned in the rear of the building near where the light smoke was discovered. Firefighters used the tower truck to access the roof and discovered two of the HVAC units were experiencing some issues.

They shut down these units and then used fans to clear the light smoke in the building.

There was no report of fire damage to the building.

Statesboro Walmart Supercenter employees and customers were allowed to reenter the building after firefighters cleared the building and determined it was safe. The store is now operating normally.

Due to the extremely cold temperatures, firefighters have remained very busy over the past few days with alarm and HVAC trouble calls.
