No visitors allowed at EGRMC ED as COVID cases increase

Beginning on Tuesday, January 11, 2022, no visitors will be allowed in the East Georgia Regional Medical Center (EGRMC) emergency department. EGRMC reported 26 COVID patients in the hospital on Monday, January 10, 2022.

Beginning on Tuesday, January 11, 2022, no visitors will be allowed in the East Georgia Regional Medical Center (EGRMC) emergency department.

The ICU has been at 98% capacity for over a week and the EGRMC ED is reporting severe overcrowding.

Region J has 202 ICU beds in use out of a total of 215 total ICU beds, or 93.95%. This means there are only 13 ICU beds available in the entire region which includes Savannah and Brunswick.

Visitor policy change

In a statement from Erin Spillman, Director of Marketing for EGRMC she said the no visitor in the E.D. change in visitation rules is necessary as the COVID-19 situation continues to change in our community. They will continue monitor the situation and adjust visitor guidelines and policies as needed.

East Georgia Regional Medical Center continues to limit visitation to 1 visitor/support person (must be 18 years of age or older) per patient hospital-wide, except for in the Emergency Department. 

'No visitor' policy in the Emergency Department Exceptions: 

- End of life” situations - Individuals with a significant disability are limited to one (1) support person
- Pediatric/Minor patients (< 18 years old) may have one (1) visitor but this is limited to only parents or guardians
