Madeline Ryan Smith announced her candidacy for the Georgia House of Representatives District 158. Smith is the youngest woman to run for the Georgia House of Representatives District 158. The District 158 seat is currently held by Butch Parrish a Republican.

Smith is running as a Democratic for the State House of Representatives seat in the November 2022 General Election.

Born in Savannah, Georgia, Madeline Smith is a Georgia Native and moved to Statesboro in 2016 to pursue a Bachelors of Science in Psychology. In 2020, she began her Masters program focused on Social Science.

Smith’s time at Georgia Southern has driven her advocacy rooted in founding the Students with Disabilities Advocacy Group GSU and as Vice President of the Young Democrats of Georgia Southern.

Smith has cultivated an impressive team through these organizations and wants to transfer these skills to serve District 158. Smith supports family owned farms and wants to encourage state funding for family and minority owned farms.

Education: specifically public education is a huge focus of Smith’s potential policy concerns.

When Smith was asked why she is running for the Georgia House District 158 she replied, “I am running because I believe I can make a difference. For you, for me, for our community…I refuse to be a double Georgia Southern graduate, be exposed to the issues, and then turn my back on Statesboro and District 158 like it is not my home. Statesboro and the people I have found here have taught me some hard lessons, but have shaped me into the person I am today. It is my turn to give back.”

Representative Parrish has confirmed with Grice Connect that he will seek re-election in 2022 as well.
