Beaufort man arrested after brandishing a gun during a Thanksgiving accident on I-16

The initial call reported that the driver of the vehicle in the I-16 accident was entrapped. When the first units arrived on the scene they reported that the driver was in the vehicle but not entrapped. They also reported that he was very combative and brandishing a gun.

The heavy duty truck was overturned on the shoulder of the interstate and the boat it was pulling ended up on top of the overturned truck.

Bulloch EMS requested Air Evac to transport the driver but cancelled them due to the combative condition of the driver.

Bulloch Sheriff's Deputies and GSP were able to get the gun away from the driver.

Bulloch EMS transported the driver to EGRMC where he was later arrested by GSP and transported to the Bulloch County jail.

According to Bulloch County jail records the driver is identified as Tristan Mclennon Trimm with a Beaufort, South Carolina address. He is charged with:

  • DUI
  • failure to maintain lane
  • possession of a firearm by a convicted felon
  • possession of Amphetamine
  • possession of a firearm during the commission of or attempt to commit certain felonies
  • obstruction of law enforcement officers

There was also a dog in the vehicle that was transported by Bulloch County Animal Control officer.

No other vehicles were involved and there were no other occupants in the vehicle.
