Bulloch County Board of Commissioners Chairman Roy Thompson signed a proclamation presented by the Archibald Bulloch Chapter of DAR recently.

The proclamation recognizes the week of September 17th-23rd as Constitution Week, a celebration of this foundational document.

In 1955, Daughters of the American Revolution petitioned Congress to set aside September 17th-23rd annually to be dedicated for the observance of Constitution Week.

The resolution was later adopted by Congress and signed into public law on August 2, 1956, by President Dwight D. Eisenhower.

This year marks the 234th anniversary of the 1787 Constitutional Convention at which the world’s oldest written constitution was drafted by the United States outlining the fundamental principles by which our nation is governed.

Georgia was the fourth state to ratify the Constitution.

Constitution week provides an opportunity for all citizens to learn of Georgia’s historic role during our nation’s founding.

It is also an opportunity to recall the historical events which led to the framing of this important document and to reflect upon its governing principles for society.
