A late night Statesboro structure fire, around 11:00 PM on Wednesday, February 10th has left the family with only the clothes on their back.

Statesboro Fire Department along with units from the Bulloch County Fire Department responded to a reported grease fire inside the residence on 4 Preetorius Street in downtown Statesboro.

Upon arrival of the first arriving fire engine reported heavy fire involvement coming from the front and left sides of the structure. They requested assistance for a working structure fire.

SFD crews made an aggressive attack upon arrival to contain the fire but the residence sustained heavy fire and smoke damage throughout. SFD and BCFD crews performed salvage and overhaul of the structure and extinguished all of the hot spots. This kept units on the scene until around 3:00 AM Thursday morning.

North Main Street was closed from Parrish Street to Northside Drive for several hours while firefighters battled the fire and completed salvage operations.

CAFE and Red Cross Provided Immediate Assistance

The house was occupied by Dawn Robertson and her Fiance Anthony Roberts along with their five year old daughter. The family escaped with only the clothes on their back. Bulloch EMS responded and treated Anthony on the scene but he was not transported to the hospital.

Statesboro Fire's CAFE Unit and the Red Cross responded to the location to assist Dawn and Anthony. Although the building sustained heavy damage due to the rapid fire spread, SFD and BCFD crews did an outstanding job containing the fire and preventing more loss of the structure and contents.
