Local entrepreneur and former BMX bike racer, Maddie Flocks has a passion for bikes that has turned a hobby into a thriving business in downtown Statesboro. Maddie and her fiance, Robert Richards, own Recycled Cycles Statesboro which is located in the Business Innovation Group (BIG) center.

Maddie and Robert take donated or traded in bikes and refurbish them to a like new condition. They then sell the bikes at deeply discounted prices. Maddie uses a portion of the profit to restore children's bikes which they give away to local children through Fostering Bulloch and the Boys and Girls Club.

They also perform annual maintenance on customers bikes, restore your bike to its original condition or will accept your bike, no matter the condition as trade to an upgraded bike.

Growing up with a Passion for Bikes

Growing up in southern California racing BMX bikes, Maddie has always had a passion for bikes. It is a passion and love of the outdoors that she loves to share with others.

After moving to Statesboro and meeting Robert a Statesboro native who was a motocross mechanic. While traveling the state with Robert helping him train kids in motocross, is when she broadened her passion for bikes to include the mechanical side.

Maddie continued her education and became a Shimano certified bike technician.

“Not everyone can afford a brand new bike,” Flocks said. “We wanted to make it affordable for every child to own a bike; it doesn’t have to be a brand new bike.”

The BIG difference

Maddie's partnership with BIG offers here the opportunity to work with other entrepreneurs and draw from the talent pool BIG offers.

“It’s cool to be a part of the FabLab and BIG to help me get my business up and running. I’m learning what I need to know about business and have a place to work at an affordable price. They’re helping the local community, are huge supporters of downtown Statesboro and are great with helping businesses get their start.”

Recycled Cycles will be open to customers on weekends through Christmas. They do require appointments during the week.
