Statesboro is missing Wing Maxx.  A few weeks ago, the owners closed the restaurant and demolished the 29-year-old building.  If you have driven by lately, you have noticed that they have taken it back down to the dirt and local contractors, Tippins Polk, is rebuilding the all-new Wing Maxx from the ground up. They anticipate having the new building ready to open in early September.

Wing Maxx’s owners are focused on operating as efficiently as possible utilizing the smallest footprint possible that allows them to do more with less land.  The unique dual drive-through will continue with the new restaurant.  They will be expanding the outside seating and adding online ordering through their website wing-maxx.com for the entire menu except for the “Wingsday” special.

One neat new way they will be doing business at the new restaurant is rounding out the pricing on all items so everything will be even priced to cut down on the use of change.

Owners Tina and Jeff Hook opened Wing Maxx in 2011.  With extensive knowledge in the restaurant industry, they created a business model that emphasizes good food, excellent customer service and local community involvement.

Leading the Industry

Wing Maxx led the industry in only using fresh, all natural organic chicken.   Cooking food fresh daily has been a big part of their success.   Even their tossing sauces, dipping sauces and most of their homemade sides are cooked fresh in house.  The wings are delivered to the restaurant fresh daily and are marinade overnight and hand breaded.

In addition to the mouthwatering wings and delicious chicken fingers, some of my favorite items are the made from scratch sides.  I am happy to report that the mac-n-cheese, fried okra and vinegar fries will all be returning to the menu.

Their signature “Wednesdays are Wingsdays” will also continue.  So will the popular daily lunch specials.

Look for new dipping sauces and healthy additions to the menu including wraps, a super-food side salad, fresh carrots and celery.

Began as Krystal

The Wing Maxx building was originally Statesboro’s first Krystal restaurant, which originally opened in 1991.  The original management team, who began with Krystal, continued with Wing Maxx.  This continuity of management is highly unusual in the restaurant industry and no doubt is a huge part of their continued success.

These managers include David Waters, Harvey Wells and Clinton Page.  Key team members Kara Page and Caitlin Waters will be retuning also.

Samantha and Travis Bass own and operate the second Wing Maxx location in Lake Oconee through a licensing agreement with the Hooks. This location opened in June of 2019.

We will keep you updated on the grand reopening of Statesboro’s newest Wing Maxx located at 732 Northside Drive East at the Walmart Supercenter entrance.
