Bulloch County COVID-19 Report 071720

Georgia reaches “widespread community transmission” of COVID-19.  Community spread, or community transmission, happens when people contract the virus but do not know how or when they got it. A state experiencing community spread is in the “acceleration phase” of a pandemic, meaning cases are rising up a curve, according to health officials.  Cases, tests, hospitalizations, and deaths are all rising in Georgia. The positive test rate is now 13.6 percent which is two percentage points away from the CDC danger zone of 15 percent.

The President’s Task Force identified 18 states that are in the red zone for cases: Alabama, Arkansas, Arizona, California, Florida, Georgia, Iowa, Idaho, Kansas, Louisiana, Mississippi, North Carolina, Nevada, Oklahoma, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, and Utah.

The “Red Zone” is defined as those core-based statistical areas (CBSAs) and counties that during the last week reported both new cases above 100 per 100,000 population, and a diagnostic test positivity result above 10%.” Georgia is in the “red zone” for cases and test positivity.

Today in Bulloch County:

  • DPH is reporting Bulloch Counties 7th death from COVID-19, a 42 year old female, race African American and comorbidity
  • 751 Total confirmed cases and 7 deaths total reported here with 59 hospitalizations total.  Up 28 confirmed cases since yesterday.  (These figures apply to Bulloch County Residents)
  • EGRMC currently/today caring for 22 COVID-19 positive patients today (May or may not be Bulloch County Residents) 5 COVID-19 patients on vents.
  • EMS received notice of 1 Confirmed COVID-19 positive and 3 probable patients transported recently.  To Date: 56 probable and 41 confirmed transports by EMS.
  • Region J Critical Care Bed Capacity decreased to 17 today.  There are only 15% (429 beds) critical care beds available statewide.

Exceeding EGRMC bed and staff capacity is why leaders keep calling for citizens to wear a mask, social distance, wash hands and avoid crowds to slow the spread and not overwhelm our hospital.  EGRMC has 24 ICU beds and 17 vents currently.  The ICU bed count does not include step down beds.  They can expand to more critical beds if needed with some modifications.
