Last updated on July 13, 2020

The “Squash the Spread” citizen movement, together with the City of Statesboro, Bulloch County, and Bulloch County Emergency Management distributed approximately 4,000 cloth face masks to help slow the spread of the Coronavirus (COVID-19) in Bulloch County.

On Saturday, July 11, 2020, a group of 25 volunteers from the Statesboro-Bulloch community worked together to distribute approximately 4,000 cloth face masks to area residents. The distribution of the face masks is part of an effort to help slow the spread of COVID-19 in Bulloch County, which is currently categorized as being in a state of “substantial spread” according to the Georgia Department of Public Health.

The cloth face masks, provided by the Hanes Company to the State of Georgia for distribution through local Emergency Management Agencies, were distributed at four local businesses: Lowe’s, Food World (Hwy 80 location), Food World (Fair Rd. location), Bi-Lo, and Sav-a-Lot. Together with practicing social distancing and frequent hand washing, wearing cloth face masks is an effective method of slowing the spread of the virus.

The Squash the Spread group will distribute masks to local businesses this Wednesday and Thursday, July 15th – 16th. Pickup is scheduled for 9am – 2pm at Louetta Moore Park. The group also has plans to continue distributing masks to local residents.
