Feed The Boro Feeds Public Safety and Hospital Staff for Easter
The past few weeks have been very stressful for our local heroes serving on the front line of the COVID-19 crisis around the county and in our community. Many of them have to work on Easter to ensure the security and safety of our community. This is an additional sacrifice in such extraordinary times.
Bulloch County VOAD reached out to Feed the Boro Chair Don Poe and Uncle Shug’s owner Stacy Underwood to get their help on feeding a delicious Easter meal to these heroes. Both Underwood and Poe were eager to help. They partnered together to cook, prepare and help deliver the meals on Easter Sunday.
Volunteers arrived Easter morning to work with Uncle Shug’s staff to cook, plate and distribute the meals. The Easter meal included fried chicken, mac-n-cheese, green beans, rolls and banana pudding. Over 100 public safety members throughout the county received the delicious meal to thank them for their service.
Sunday afternoon, the volunteers returned again to cook the same meal for the entire East Georgia Regional Medical Center staff. The hospital’s kitchen staff cooked lunch for the staff, but were allowed to take the evening off, thanks to this effort by Feed the Boro. Over 100 staff members at EGRMC were able to enjoy a wonderful dinner.

We have been looking for a way to get engaged in helping our community during this crisis”, said Don Poe, Chair, FTB. “Being able to serve our local heroes in public safety and also the hospital staff on Easter is an extraordinary blessing for our volunteers. I want to offer a special thanks to Stacy Underwood and his staff at Uncle Shug’s Chicken Barn for assisting us with this effort. We took over their restaurant on Easter Sunday. This was a tremendous gift from Stacy. We are also very grateful for the sacrifices they are making for our family and we are glad to help in a small way.”
Poe and the Feed the Boro committee work all year long to raise funds and plan for their largest project which is feeding our community on Thanksgiving Day. Last year over 800 volunteers came together to prepare, plate and deliver over 5,000 traditional Thanksgiving meals to Bulloch, Candler and Evans Counties.
