Catherine Sumner Findley, a career prosecutor and resident of Bulloch County for 28 years, announces her candidacy for the position of Bulloch County Solicitor-General. Findley will qualify for the position on March 2, 2020 at 9:00 a.m., and seek election in the General Primary on May 19, 2020.

Findley has served as Bulloch County’s lead prosecuting attorney for felony cases originating from the Bulloch County Sheriff’s Office, Georgia Bureau of Investigations, and Georgia State Patrol for the last four years. Prior to that time, Findley was a lead prosecuting attorney serving in Effingham County. She has been responsible for the successful prosecution of cases involving charges of murder, rape, armed robbery, sexually based offenses against children, vehicular homicide, elder abuse and exploitation, drug distribution, burglary, theft, and financial crimes. During her time in law school, Findley interned within the Ogeechee Judicial Circuit District Attorney’s Office in Statesboro, as well as the Ocmulgee Judicial Circuit District Attorney’s Office in Madison, Georgia. In 2014 she was named the Prosecutorial Clinician of the year for the University of Georgia School of Law.

Prior to attending law school, Findley worked as a constituency services intern for former United States Senator Johnny Isakson in Washington, D.C.

“As a prosecuting attorney, it is my job to make tough decisions that often have great impact on those I am employed to serve. I take that charge very seriously and work every day to uphold the laws of the State of Georgia, while remaining fully aware of the needs of our community, and its members. I was raised in Bulloch County. I grew up in our school system, in our recreation department, in the congregation of First Baptist Church, and I graduated from Georgia Southern University. My family has owned and operated a local business in Bulloch County for over 15 years. It is my desire to use the practice of law, particularly my experience in the field of prosecution, to give back to the community that has provided so well for my family. Bulloch County is my home, and a place in which I desire to continue my service in State Court as Solicitor-General.”

Catherine Sumner Findley has had the opportunity to work alongside law enforcement in Bulloch County in the prosecution of many difficult and complex cases. “I greatly appreciate the open communication, diligence, and dedication exhibited by law enforcement agencies in Bulloch County. I will continue to focus on maintaining strong, professional relationships with our local agencies as Solicitor.”

Findley has been married to her husband, Spenser for four years. They are the parents of one son, Sam. Within our community, Findley has served as President and Vice President of the Bulloch County Bar Association. She is a graduate of both the Lynda Brannen Williamson Leadership Academy and Leadership Bulloch, and also serves as a Sunday school teacher in her local church congregation. She has previously been a Wednesday night group leader at First Baptist, as well as the chairperson for a fundraiser benefiting a local family and the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society.

“I feel prepared and qualified to handle this position, primarily because of the wisdom, guidance, and encouragement this community has so graciously provided throughout the years. I respectfully ask for your continued advice and support over the next few months. This endeavor would simply not be possible without you, and I appreciate your time and consideration.”
