Daniel McAlhany a Statesboro High senior and Trail Life Trailman, will received this Sunday the prestigious Freedom award from Trail Life USA.   Daniel McAlhany is the first person from Statesboro to receive this award.   The award ceremony to be held on Sunday, October 20 at 4pm at First Baptist Church in Statesboro.

The Freedom Award is meant to recognize young men who epitomize the Trail Life oath and motto, “Walk Worthy.” Through the process of gaining his Freedom award, Daniel demonstrated unique leadership and service experiences required to help him achieve this award.

As a recipient of the Worthy Life award, McAlhany used his multimedia talents to volunteer with a children’s choir and says the humbling experience allowed all to grow in their walk with Christ. An active member of First Baptist Church Statesboro, McAlhany tries to be an example to younger men in the way they live, act and lead others.

For his Freedom project, McAlhany constructed a pergola at the Open Hearts Community Mission, a local homeless shelter.  With the help form other Trailmen, McAlhany cleaned up the area, giving the shelter residents a place relax and enjoy the outdoors for a meal, meet with mentors or a quiet space to work. McAlhany hopes this effort will be continued through upcoming Trailmen as a place they can continue to keep the space clean for the homeless.

His service, leadership and heart to give back don’t end with Trail Life or his local church.   As a graduating senior of Statesboro High, McAlhany has already taken his oath of office as a member of the Air Force where he will serve on special mission aircraft maintenance.  As a member of Trail Life since 2014, McAlhany continues to embrace the motto of “Walk Worthy” as he prepares for the next chapter of his life.
