Seven Statesboro leaders Kendria M. Lee, Victor Cabral, Anita Griffin-Howard, Terrence Mabry Sr., Dr. Scott Lindsey Mikell, Nikki Barefoot, Psy.D., and Gemma Skuraton, DrPH, have been named to the Georgia Southern University Alumni Association’s “40 Under 40” Class of 2019.

Lee is a Georgia Southern Double Eagle who graduated with an MBA in 2007 and a Bachelor of Business Administration in information systems in 2003. Currently, she is Georgia Southern’s director for Economic Development and Community Relations.

Cabral, a Georgia Southern Double Eagle who earned an M.S. in kinesiology in 2014 and a bachelor’s degree in interdisciplinary studies in 2005, is a football coach for the University.

“The thing that excites me most about my career is that I get to do what I love,” said Cabral. “Motivating and guiding young men to accomplish their goals they set for themselves and team is great. No two days are ever the same, and I get to do it for the greatest university in the country.”

In 2003, Griffin-Howard earned a bachelor’s degree in fine arts and design from Armstrong State University, which consolidated with Georgia Southern in 2018. Today, she is Georgia Southern’s Women’s Basketball head coach.

“Coaching allows me to share the gift of the globe,” said Griffin-Howard. “Basketball serves as a unique tool to expose student-athletes to travel, networking, leadership development and much more.”

Mabry, a Georgia Southern Double Eagle who graduated with a Master of Health Services Administration in 2007 and a bachelor’s degree in kinesiology and sports medicine and athletic training in 2005, is the MiMedx Inc. regional reimbursement director for the Central United States.

Mikell, a physician with Statesboro Family Practice who is happy to be able to give back to his hometown, earned a bachelor’s degree in biology from Georgia Southern before completing a medical degree at Augusta University.

Barefoot is a Triple Eagle who earned a Doctor of Psychology in clinical psychology in 2014, a master’s degree in clinical psychology in 2012 and a bachelor’s degree in psychology in 2009. Today, she is a licensed psychologist for Statesboro Psychiatric Associates.

Skuraton is a Georgia Southern Triple Eagle who earned a Doctor of Public Health in 2018, a Master of Public Health in 2014 and a Bachelor of Science in kinesiology and athletic training and exercise science in 2012. Today, she serves as Georgia Southern’s health promotion coordinator.

“My most unforgettable memory from Georgia Southern University is my master’s level capstone/thesis research project,” remembered Skuraton. “I am thankful that this connection allowed me to fully conceptualize holistic well-being as well as the power of community-based participatory research.”

The “40 Under 40” honorees were chosen by a selection committee that reviewed each individual’s professional expertise, achievements, dedication to charitable and community initiatives and their commitment to Georgia Southern.

“We are excited to honor the ‘40 Under 40′ Class of 2019,” said Wendell Tompkins, director of Alumni Relations. “This is an impressive group of rising stars who will continue to inspire and lead their communities while demonstrating a lifelong commitment to Georgia Southern University. They represent the excellence of the University’s alumni and exemplify the positive contributions and remarkable achievements for which Georgia Southern is known.”
